Trivia

  • Azurill has the lowest base of operations stat total of all Normal- and Fairy-blazon Pokémon.
  • Azurill is the only Pokémon with a base stat total of 190.
  • Azurill is tied with Togepi and Marill for the lowest base Attack of all Fairy-type Pokémon.
    • In add-on, Azurill and Marill both have the lowest base of operations Special Attack of all Fairy-blazon Pokémon.
  • Polka dots are known in Japan equally 水玉 mizutama, literally meaning water balls. This might explain why Azurill is known equally the Polka Dot Pokémon.
    • This name also reflects the way Azurill is indirectly related with Water.
  • Prior to Generation 6, because Azurill'southward gender ratio does not match that of its evolved forms and its evolution is non dependent on gender, being female 75% of the fourth dimension while Marill and Azumarill are female-only 50% of the fourth dimension, one out of iii female person Azurill evolves into a male Marill (depending on its personality value). Azurill is the just Pokémon to do this. From Generation VI on, Azurill retains its gender upon evolving, despite the gender ratios all the same differing.
  • Azurill is the only Pokémon which evolves through friendship whose evolved class evolves by level.
  • Azurill is the shortest Normal-type Pokémon.

Origin

Azurill appears to exist a mouse combined with a beach ball or possibly a personal flotation device or lifebuoy. The idea of Azurill storing nutrients in its tail may come from the mouse-like fat-tailed dunnart; this marsupial's carrot-shaped tail stores nutrition in the class of fat for times of scarcity.

Azurill'southward ability to alter gender upon evolving to Marill may be a reference to the real-world natural phenomenon of sequential hermaphroditism, which is when an organism is able to change its sex activity at some point in its life, normally to address an imbalance in the breeding population, and is observed in many species of fish, gastropods and plants.

Name origin

Azurill is a combination of azure (a shade of blueish) or azul (Spanish and Portuguese for blueish) and rill (a pocket-size river or brook). Its proper noun may also be derived from its evolutions, Marill and Azumarill.

Ruriri may be a corruption of 瑠璃 ruri (lapis lazuli), or it may exist a variation of azurite (a blue rock).
